About Mary Kole

Founder of Heirloom Editions

For more than fifteen years, I have worked at the highest levels of publishing — as a literary agent, editor, ghostwriter, and teacher of the writing craft. My experience spans genres and audiences, from guiding debut authors to shaping manuscripts for Newbery Honor winners.

As a ghostwriter and collaborator, I’ve helped create books that have reached the New York Times bestseller list and the USA Today bestseller list, including high-profile projects like Jonathan Van Ness’s Let Them Stare and Julie Murphy’s beloved Catty Corner series.

But fiction simply isn’t as real as a personal narrative. I’ve always been fascinated by human beings and their lived experiences. In my memoir work, I have collaborated privately with entrepreneurs, executives, artists, and families seeking to preserve their most meaningful legacies. Whether I’m weaving together a bestseller or structuring a life into a compelling story that’ll echo across generations, I bring the same level of craft, discernment, and discretion to every project.

I founded Heirloom Editions to serve a specific need: Creating memoirs that are not meant for the public, but for the people who matter most. Each commission is a partnership—one life, carefully shaped into a book that endures as an heirloom of a life worth remembering.
